Dr Ayanda Ntsaluba is an Executive Director of Discovery Holdings. Discovery Limited is an integrated financial services organisation operating with clients in South Africa, United Kingdom, United States of America, and People’s Republic of China. Its products include health insurance, life assurance, short term insurance, savings and investment and wellness products. He holds a medical degree from the University of Natal, specialised in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, an MSc in Health Policy, Planning and Financing from the University of London, and an Executive MBA from the Graduate School of Business at the University of Cape Town. Before joining Discovery he served as a Deputy Director- General for Policy and Planning in the National Department of Health from 1995-1998 and as Director-General of Health in South Africa from September 1998 to August 2003. In September 2003, Ayanda was appointed Director-General of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Africa – a task he performed until March 2011. He currently also serves as a non – executive board member of South African Tourism, a member of The Lancet – University Oslo Commission on Global Governance for health in collaboration with Harvard Global Health Institute, a member of the Ministerial Advisory Committee on the Institute for Leadership and Management in Health as well as a member of the Board of Trustees of the South African National Aids Trust.
Dr. Khamane (KOP) Matseke is the Chairman and founder of KOPM Group (Pty) Ltd (KOPM – 2010), and is also the founder of Clinix Health Group (Pty) Ltd (1992), as well as its major shareholder. Currently he acts as a Non-Executive Member of the Board of Directors of Clinix Health Group. Dr. Matseke previously served as the company’s managing director for more than fifteen years. Associated companies under the umbrella of KOPM, also include, SBuys (Chairman of the Board), Clinix Renal Care, and KOPM Investments. KOPM Investments is the Majority Shareholder in a co-owned Soweto Hospital – the famous Dr SK Matseke Memorial Hospital (formerly Clinix Lesedi Private Hospital) – which balance of shares owned by Netcare are currently under acquisition by KOPM Group. Previous activities include a seat on the Board of Sechaba Medical Services, which was Chaired by him for some years, prior relinquishing tenure after a thirty year history with SMS. Dr. Matseke is still a shareholder in this black-owned medical aid administration firm. He also played a role in the South African National Defence Forces Medical Services (Reserve Force), reaching the rank of General. He was trained at, and qualified as a Medical Doctor at the University of Natal in South Africa – MB ChB (Natal). Prior to founding and growing Clinix Health Group he has worked as a medical officer in the surgical department at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital; has run a vibrantly successful family practice; has assumed responsibility for the management and control of Dr SK Matseke Memorial Hospital – in turn completely refocusing the business, and returning it to profitability. In 1990 he completed a MAP with Wits Business School. Dr Matseke is well-known as a visionary entrepreneur, not only in hospital, and health related industries. This recognition now sees him Chairing the Board of the Gauteng Enterprise Propeller, an organisation which is dedicated to the empowerment, and encouragement of budding South African entrepreneurs.
Karl-Heinz Kolz is an experienced board member and a seasoned senior executive with over twenty years of experience as a sustainable financier in manufacturing and financial service industries in Asia, Africa and Latin America. His professional experience spans for almost 30 years serving in different portfolios that saw him working in Latin America, Asia and South Africa. He holds a MSc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Köln and an MSc in Business Administration from the University of Berlin.
Mogopodi’s career began in 1989 when he was appointed Assistant National Accountant for the Congress of South African Trade Unions. In 1991 he joined the National Education Co-ordinating Committee where he held the post of National Accountant and later moved to the auditing firm, Douglas and Velcich (CA) S.A. In 1994, Mogopodi joined the Johannesburg City Council as an Internal Auditor. He was later seconded to the Gauteng Department of Housing and Local Government, and just a year thereafter, was appointed the Housing and Local Government’s Department’s Director of Strategic Management. In 1996, the Greater Johannesburg Northern Metropolitan Council appointed Mogopodi as Strategic Executive: Finance (City Treasurer). Two years later he became Head of the Gauteng Department of Housing and Land Affairs. During his tenure he served as a Council member of WITS university and of the Institute of Municipal Finance Officers. In October 2000, Mogopodi was appointed to the post of Director General for the Gauteng Provincial Government and in March 2009 he joined African Access Holdings as its Group Managing Director until he left the company in June 2012. Over the years, he has also served as Chairman of the Board for Blue IQ Holdings and its subsidiary, The Innovation Hub (PTY) Ltd, the Gauteng Growth and Development Agency (GGDA) and INCA Portfolio Managers. He has also served on the board of the Gautrain Management Agency since April 2009 to Dec 2014. Mogopodi has experience in various fields ranging from financial management and auditing, to public policy development, urban and strategic economic infrastructure development, trade and investment promotion, and general management. He holds an Honours degree in B.Com Accounting from University of South Africa (UNISA).
Dr Motlana holds an MBBch from the University of the Witwatersrand and an Mmed in Psychiatry from the University of Pretoria. Dr Motlana was Clinical Head at Tara Hospital, one of the foremost psychiatric institutions in the country before leaving medicine to pursue a second career in business. She retains the position of an Honorary Consultant at the Outpatient Eating Disorder Unit at Tara Hospital and is involved in research at the University of the Witwatersrand. She is a member of the Hospital Board at Tara Hospital. She is the founding director of Psychiatry M Powered,a PBO that seeks to counter the stigmatisation of mental illness through psycho-education. This work has led her to make regular appearances on television, radio and print media. She is also a founding director of the Dr Nthato Motlana Foundation. Dr Motlana was appointed to the Clinix Health Group board in 2008 and she also sits on the boards of several companies and organisations.
Moses has 34 years of accounting, audit and advisory experience within the public and private sectors. Previously he has been the Chairman of the Policy Board and Executive Director of Consumer Markets for KPMG South Africa. He was also the Chairman of KPMG Africa and a member of KPMG’s Europe Middle East Africa and International Board. Professional and Industry Experience As the Chief Executive of KPMG South Africa, Moses was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the firm. Moses is a former member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) Board. Moses served as the Chairman of the Accounting Practices Board for five years. The main objective of (APB) was to establish and recognize International Financial Reporting Standards and their relevance to the South African business. This body has now been replaced by FRSC in South Africa. Moses was also a Trustee of the Thuthuka Bursary Fund. The purpose of the Fund is to annually place between 250 – 300 fully bursared Black African and Coloured students at selected SAICA-accredited universities on special undergraduate B.Com Accounting education programmes. Moses served as a member of the IFRS Advisory Council (SAC) of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB). He was a member of Business Leadership South Africa. He is a member of the Institute of Directors in South Africa (IoDSA). Moses is a former President of the Association for the Advancement of Black Accountants of Southern Africa (ABASA) which was established in 1985 to promote the interests of black men and women engaged in the accounting profession. Dumani Kula is a medical doctor with an MBA, with 18 years of professional experience spanning both public and private sectors; local and international; as well as clinical and executive management roles. He is the Deputy CEO and oversees strategy and operations across the group. Prior to this, Dr Kula was a senior executive responsible for Strategy and Risk Management at Discovery Health, where he oversaw the health expenditure of all its client schemes. Outside his professional career, Dr Kula is also a motivational speaker and an author.
